Diet in a Box is based on the low carbohydrate diet followed
by Deon van der Merwe and his family
(for more details visit:
www.lowcarbsa.co.za
).
The way it works is by keeping your carbohydrates below
20grams per day, you force your body to use its stored fat
for energy. It is the most natural form of weight loss as it
is your body’s own natural system to lose the weight.
What time you eat the meals is entirely up to you, some
people like to eat their breakfast early in the morning but
you can even eat it as late as 10 o’clock. Make sure there
is never a period of longer than 6 hours that you do not
eat.

During the first week your body needs to switch over from
using carbohydrates for energy to using fat for energy. Your
body will resist doing this and you might experience
headaches, muscle cramps, irritability, lethargy and
basically feeling terrible. Your body should switch over
into Ketosis (using fat for energy) in three to four days.
After this happens you will feel much better and energized
and you should not experience any further negative effects.

We recommend that you take a daily multi vitamin with this
eating plan. You can also make use of the following useful
supplements – Omega 3, Magnesium supplement (if you
experience muscle cramps), L-Glutamine (helps with recovery
after exercise and also prevents cravings).

We recommend you find an exercise you enjoy and do that for
an hour a day 4 times per week.

All meals are colour coded and numbered for ease of use.
